The Environmental Integrity Project's "The Power Behind AI" report identifies at least 74 natural gas power plants planned across the U.S. to supply data centers, together generating 143 gigawatts of electricity. This is nearly triple California's output, emitting 662 million tons of greenhouse gases annually (comparable to entire country of Australia). An accompanying spreadsheet breaks down pollution and demographic data for each project.
