Reducing Ecological Impacts of Shale Development: Noise

The Nature Conservancy surveys research on how noise from shale gas development disrupts wildlife communication, behavior and reproduction, tracing it to truck traffic, construction and compressor stations. It recommends practices to cut those impacts, including careful siting and design of noise-producing facilities and keeping noise below 55 decibels at 300 feet from the source.
