Gov. Greg Abbott Signs SB 6 To Improve Texas Grid Reliability

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 6 (SB 6) into law in June 2025, targeting grid reliability by imposing new cost-sharing and interconnection requirements on large electricity consumers using 75 megawatts or more, including data centers. The legislation empowers ERCOT to curtail large loads during grid emergencies and establishes new regulatory oversight for co-location arrangements, representing one of the first state-level efforts to directly manage the grid impacts of rapidly growing data center demand in Texas.
