An interactive, crowd-sourced web map created by the Piedmont Environmental Council that tracks existing and proposed data center facilities across Virginia — a state housing nearly 50% of all U.S. data centers. The map documents specific project details including developers, square footage, and energy usage, providing a digestible picture of Virginia's data center footprint. PEC created this tool to address the lack of publicly available state-level tracking of these facilities, helping communities, advocates, and local governments understand the cumulative impacts of unchecked data center growth on energy infrastructure, water resources, air quality, and ratepayers.
